Summit County has contracted with Republic Services for garbage collection beginning in 2017. Most property owners in Weber Canyon received a $36 billing notice for 2017 annual garbage collection from Republic Services. There is confusion about the purpose of the collection fee. The notice referenced that it was for a “65 gallon cart,” even if the property owner did not have a 65 gallon cart. The Upper Weber Canyon Property Owners Association has been in contact with the Summit County Landfill Superintendent. After discussion, their recommendation, at this point, is to pay the invoice “under protest” to avoid a late payment penalty.
